Credits and limit errors

Understand usage-limit messages, what each one means, and what you can do about it right now.

· OpenbirdAI documentation

A limit message is specific: it names which allowance was exhausted. Treating them all as "out of credits" leads to the wrong fix, so read the wording carefully before changing anything about your usage or your plan.

Availability, limits and provider coverage can change. The plans and pricing area of the product is the source of truth for current allowances.

Reading the message

  • Daily AI call limit → you used your daily request allowance. It resets on the period shown in the usage summary.
  • Daily credit limit → you used today's credit allowance.
  • Weekly or monthly credits exhausted → the longer-period allowance is spent.
  • Insufficient credits for this request → the balance is positive but smaller than this request requires.
  • Provider quota → a connected provider refused the call; changing plan will not help.

What to do

  1. Read the limit named in the message.
  2. Check the plans and usage area for the exact counters and reset times.
  3. Reduce cost: start a new conversation, name a single source, avoid Deep Strategy.
  4. Wait for the daily reset, or change plan if the pattern is permanent.
  5. For provider quota errors, wait or reduce the request rate.
A request that is refused is not charged. You are not losing credits by hitting a limit.

Reducing credit usage

  • Keep conversations focused rather than long.
  • Ask one subject at a time.
  • Avoid re-running requests whose answers you already accepted.
  • Use web research deliberately — it raises the Core score.

If the numbers look wrong

Compare the usage summary on the completed response with the plans and usage area, then with the ledger. If they still disagree, report it with the request reference. Do not attempt to work around billing checks.

Provider quotas look like credit limits but are not

When a connected provider refuses the call because its own quota is exhausted, the message names the provider rather than a credit allowance. Changing plans does nothing about it.

  • Wait for the provider quota window to reset.
  • Reduce the request rate or narrow the question.
  • Check whether the quota is account-wide or app-specific.
A provider quota error is not a billing problem and should not be reported as one.
