Conversation history

Open, search, continue and manage Ask conversations without losing context, and understand how history is scoped and paginated.

· OpenbirdAI documentation

Ask conversations are saved automatically. Opening one restores its message context so follow-ups behave like a continuation. History is scoped to your account and the workspaces you belong to.

Finding a conversation

The Ask sidebar lists recent conversations, grouped by date, with search for older ones. Older messages load as you scroll, so long conversations do not stall the page on open.

  1. Open Ask from the dashboard navigation to reach the sidebar.
  2. Use the sidebar search for a keyword you remember from the conversation.
  3. Select the conversation to restore its messages and context.
  4. Scroll up to load older messages if you need earlier context from a long thread.

Continuing versus starting fresh

  • Continue an existing conversation when your question is a follow-up about the same subject.
  • Start a new conversation when the subject changes, when the previous run was cancelled, or when you want an independent answer.
  • Never paste a whole previous transcript into a new conversation as a substitute for context — it costs credits and reduces answer quality.

What history does and does not contain

  • Contains your messages, OpenFeather responses, cited sources and the recorded execution metadata.
  • Does not contain provider credentials, and is never shared between accounts or workspaces.
  • Private records referenced by an answer remain subject to the same authorisation on every later read.

Deleting and archiving

Use the conversation menu to archive or delete. Deleting removes the transcript for your account; it does not delete the original data in the connected provider, which you would have to remove there separately.

If a conversation fails to open, or opens to the empty new-chat view, note the URL and the browser width and report it — that is a rendering fault, not lost data.

Search and grouping

The sidebar groups conversations by recency and supports keyword search across titles and message content. Older messages load as you scroll, so opening a long conversation stays responsive instead of loading everything at once.

Search runs inside your own authorised scope. It cannot surface a conversation from another workspace or another account, even if you know its title.

Common questions

How far back does conversation history go?

As far as your account retains it. Deleted conversations are removed and archived ones stay out of the default list.

Does opening an old conversation cost credits?

No. Opening one is free; only a new request consumes credits.

Why does a conversation open to a blank or loading view?

The first message page is still loading, or the conversation is not accessible in the active workspace. Wait briefly, then use No data in an answer or common issues if it persists.

Does deleting a conversation delete my source data?

No. It removes only the OpenbirdAI transcript. Connected provider data is unchanged.
