Connect an accounting provider
Connect QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage or Zoho Books, verify that the right company is connected, and fix an empty ledger.
An accounting connection gives OpenFeather read access to the books for a specific company. Because accounting providers host multiple companies per user, the most common problem is connecting the wrong company rather than a broken connection.
Connecting
- Open the integrations area and choose your accounting provider.
- Sign in with the account that owns the company.
- Select the correct company or entity when the provider asks.
- Approve the read scopes and return to OpenbirdAI.
- Confirm the company name shown on the connection.
Verify the right company is connected
This is the single highest-value check after connecting. Most "wrong numbers" reports are the wrong entity, not wrong data.
"What company does this connection cover, and what is its latest recorded period?"When the ledger looks empty
- The company selected at authorisation is not the company you expect.
- The requested period is outside the imported range.
- The chart of accounts uses different category names than your question.
- The connection is read-only and the provider exposes a read replica that lags behind posting.
- Permissions on the provider side are read-only for some reports.
Currency and period handling
Always state the reporting currency and the period in a finance question. If a provider stores multiple currencies, conversion is a real transformation, not a display detail, and you should confirm the rate and date used.
Reconnecting after a period of inactivity
Accounting authorisations expire, and providers change which company a user lands in after a role change. Both look like an empty ledger but have different fixes.
- Check whether the connection still reports as connected.
- Reconnect if it is expired, and re-select the correct company when prompted.
- Confirm the company name on the connection before asking anything.
- Ask for a known figure and compare it with the provider.
Common questions
Can OpenbirdAI write back to my accounting system?
No. Accounting connections are read-only. Anything written must be done in the provider by an authorised user.
Why is a recent transaction missing?
Most providers expose synced data rather than live data. Give the sync a little time, then re-check.
